Dr. Nicki Turnidge-Halvorson grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at Westminster College. She received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Utah in May 2017. While at the University of Utah, Nicki worked with children and families in multiple outpatient agencies, and received training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). For her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Turnidge-Halvorson trained at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute. Her training included assessment, individual, and family therapy with children, adolescents, and adults on the inpatient and day treatment units. She had the opportunity to be trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and facilitated DBT groups for adolescents and their parents. Dr. Turnidge-Halvorson also conducted comprehensive assessments throughout her training, including psychological and psychoeducational evaluations, autism spectrum disorder assessment, and neuropsychological evaluations. Nicki draws from an integrative approach to therapy, with influences from attachment theory and third wave cognitive behavioral therapies. At the core, her passion is to help children and adolescents reduce their suffering and strengthen their important relationships.
Outside of her passion for psychology, Nicki enjoys time running, hiking, and snow shoeing with her dogs, cheering on the University of Utah in all sports, soaking up sunshine in the outdoors, and enjoying concerts and good food with her friends and family. She loves traveling outside of the state, though considers herself very lucky to have called this amazing state home throughout her life.
